Background
The Aberdeen group manages assets in over 200 collective investment schemes worldwide which schemes include the Irish-domiciled open ended investment companies, Aberdeen GlobalSpectrum Funds PLC, Aberdeen Funds PLC, Aberdeen Portable Alpha Funds I plc and Aberdeen Portable Alpha Funds II plc – some of which our mutual clients invest in.
Aberdeen Global is currently Aberdeen’s main Luxembourg fund umbrella. Aberdeen Global was incorporated on 25 February 1988 and is a Luxembourg domiciled open-ended investment company or société d’investissement à capital variable (a "SICAV") with UCITS status, and is authorised as an undertaking for collective investment in transferable securities under part I of the law dated 20 December 2002 on undertakings for collective investment, as amended.
Aberdeen Global has grown rapidly, currently benefiting from registrations in some 23 countries worldwide and an extensive international network of supporting distributors. As at 31 December 2007, Aberdeen Global had almost $15bn in funds under management in 23 sub-funds.
Aberdeen is in the course of expanding its Luxembourg range: further open ended companies, namely, Aberdeen Global II, Aberdeen Global III, Aberdeen Global IV and Aberdeen Global V, have been – or are in the process of being – set up to facilitate the consolidation of funds from Ireland and future fund developments. These fund umbrellas together with the existing Aberdeen Global fund umbrella are intended to reflect the diverse nature of the Aberdeen group business and the Aberdeen group’s commitment to building its European-domiciled pooled funds business in Luxembourg.
