Why Aberdeen for UK equities?

A major equity manager, Aberdeen oversees £32.1 billion in equity assets, of which £5.4* billion is invested in UK companies.
Aberdeen's UK equity portfolios are managed by our experienced nineteen-strong Pan-European Equity team. A team culture is central
to our investment philosophy. We believe in our teams and our investment process - not star managers.
The consistent application of our distinctive bottom-up equity investment approach has resulted in impressive performance by our UK
equity funds.
At Aberdeen, we do what we say we do. In 2006 our investment managers visited almost 600 UK companies as part of their research.
We never buy shares in a company before meeting its management.
From constrained to unconstrained strategies, large to smaller caps, investment for income, and ethical overlay, clients can choose from

Investment Philosophy
Given the inefficiency of markets, we believe that superior long-term returns are achieved by identifying quality stocks at reasonable
prices and holding them for the long term. Sound fundamentals drive stock prices over time. We identify good companies from firsthand
research, and add value from active management, which constitutes intensive and ongoing scrutiny at the company level.
Investment Process
Our Pan-European Equity team is headquartered in London with investment managers also based in Edinburgh. The team's bottom-up
investment process begins with a couple of basic rules: never invest in companies we haven't visited; never feel obliged to buy a stock.
Neither market capitalisation nor index membership is a guarantee of worth, therefore we do not use indices as a starting point for
building a portfolio. We prefer to rely on common sense checks and the principles of diversification.
As a large institutional investor, we have very good access to company management. We document each meeting and undertake
rigorous analysis of company business models.
