People

We recognise that our employees are fundamental to the growth and continual success of the Aberdeen group. We believe that robust employment practices contribute to strong long-term business development.

Fair Employment Practices

In formulating our Group Employment Practices Statement, Aberdeen has been guided by the relevant legislation applicable in each of the countries in which we operate and the framework established by the OECD in its Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Aberdeen encourages employment practices that foster openness, sustainability, and respect for employees’ rights.

These are broad statements of principle and are supplemented by detailed local policies appropriate to local laws and employment norms.

Equal opportunities employment

We aim to provide an environment in which applicants and employees are treated equally. Employees and applicants for employment shall not be disadvantaged by any policies or conditions of service, which cannot be justified as necessary for operational purposes. We will take all reasonably practical steps to ensure that all applicants or workers are able to participate in business activities on an equal basis.

Human rights

Aberdeen supports the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in all of its spheres of influence. It upholds the freedom of association.

Forced / child labour

We do not use or promote forced or child labour of any kind. We adhere strictly to country laws governing labour standards.

Discrimination, harassment and bullying

We aim to provide a work environment in which there is respect for personal dignity.

Grievances

If any employee has cause for complaint, each location of the Group has a grievance procedure that’s applicable to local legislative requirements.

Employee benefits statement

Aberdeen recognises the value of our employees and has identified and assessed their long term retention as key to the short and long term value of the Group. To this end, we aim to attract and retain skilled employees and enhance the work/life balance of each individual. We offer our staff a range of benefits and development opportunities appropriate to local market norms.

Employee promotion

Employee appraisals are a core element of our People programme. Appraisals are carried out at least on an annual basis and are invaluable as a means of setting objectives, promoting employees’ achievements, and identifying areas of future development. During the past year, we have engaged with our employees via our appraisal process and, as a result, developed clearer communication with our staff about appraisal topics. The Group Management Board (GMB) fully supports the performance appraisal system and feedback is provided to the GMB on a regular basis.
