“Graduates bring many benefits to the department not least in their capacity for learning, thirst for knowledge, willingness to work hard and the fresh perspective they bring to the day to day work of the department.”
Audrey McNair,

As a graduate or intern with Aberdeen, you could be based in a variety of teams across the business.
Our Alternative Strategies department manages client investments, both in pooled funds and by creating individual, client-specific portfolios using Specialist Equity, Fund of Hedge Funds, Multi-Asset and Multi-Manager strategies.
Currently, the department manages c£29 billion of assets globally. We aim to provide client portfolios and funds that diversify and control risk while optimising returns.
The aim of the Business Development department is to maximise sales and retention of assets. We also formulate and maintain sales strategies. There are two teams: one targets financial institutions and one targets non-financial institutions.
The Business Risk department has overall responsibility for operational and counterparty risk within Aberdeen itself. It’s responsible for maintaining the group’s Risk Management Framework.
The Compliance department aims to make sure best practice standards of compliance apply throughout regulated operations, and that the company complies with the FSA’s High Level Principles.
As well as its monitoring activities, the department is the main source of compliance consulting and advice to management on FSA and overseas regulatory requirements.
Our Equity Investment teams are generally located in the regions and markets in which they invest. Our UK-based investors are in London and Edinburgh and cover Global Emerging Markets, Global Equities and Pan-European Equities. From company visits and analysis carried out regionally, through to portfolio construction decisions, we adopt a team approach in our equity process.
Our Fixed Income active management style exploits market inefficiencies in interest, currency and other areas to add value for our clients. The teams all emphasise the importance of proprietary research, and also use derivatives, such as interest rate and credit default swaps, to add value and match liability exposures. Product teams also set clients’ investment strategy and evaluate risk.
The UK and Euopean marketing department deals with marketing activity in these territories. It supports business development and retention for the business units and channels. In the UK, we have a marketing desk and an e-marketing desk.
This department deals with clients – answering queries, dealing with complaints and making sure the client receives correct terms. They also ensure that initial deals are processed smoothly.
This department is responsible for providing an independent assessment of the group’s control environment. Though independent, the team work closely with the business to provide risk and control advice and assurance.
We audit all aspects of operations in all locations, and are actively involved in change management. We also investigate issues arising within the business, including fraud investigations.
