Aberdeen has sponsored jazz over the years and this year the music for our Aberdeen/Jazz FM CD has been curated by jazz genius George Benson.
Great jazz and skilful investing demand strangely similar traits – precision timing, judicious selection and the confidence to strip away what’s unnecessary to deliver what’s really powerful.
Born 22 March 1943, George Benson is a ten-time Grammy Award winning musician, singer and songwriter, who began performing at the age of seven. George became a professional musician in his early 20s as an acclaimed jazz guitarist. He is most famous for his rest-stroke picking technique, similar to that of gypsy jazz player Django Reinhardt.
George came to real prominence during the 1960s, playing soul and jazz with the likes of Jack McDuff, before embarking on a successful solo career. He is a versatile recording artist and live performer and has just released his autobiography Benson.
George has long been associated with his alternating music styles such as jazz, pop and R&B, as well as singing and scatting. This album features ten tracks personally selected by George himself to showcase this extraordinary talent.
