Scotland team secure new Aberdeen Asset Management sponsorship
29 April 2008
Aberdeen Asset Management today (Tuesday 29 April) strengthened its growing support for golf in Scotland by extending its sponsorship of the Scottish men’s and boys amateur golf team and SGU Academy with a new three-year deal.
The investment provides a fantastic boost for Scotland’s elite golf teams, who have made a flying start to the season with wins at the Boys Quadrangular in France and the recent Grey Goose Cup victory in Sweden.
The new agreement with one of the world’s leading asset management companies will see Scotland’s men’s and boys’ teams wear the Aberdeen Asset Management logo on their clothing and golf bags, whilst the sponsorship also supports the SGU Academy programme.
The new partnership programme will see Colin Montgomerie, who is also sponsored by Aberdeen Asset Management, providing support and advice to the Scotland’s teams in the build up to their major events this season, whilst Paul Lawrie will be involved with the younger age groups in the SGU Academy.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said:
“We are very proud to be associated with Scotland’s national team, the Academy and the Scottish Golf Union have proved to be a great success in our first year of sponsorship. We look forward to working closely with the SGU and the players in nurturing the development of Scottish talent."
“Golf is hugely important to Aberdeen Asset Management and by getting Colin, Paul and Mhairi Mackay involved with the amateur game, we hope they can inspire more youngsters to come through the ranks and succeed in the future.”
Hamish Grey, Chief Executive of the SGU, was delighted to be extending the governing body’s partnership with Aberdeen Asset Management:
“It’s vital that we continue to attract support from the private sector in Scotland and the sponsorship from Aberdeen Asset Management will play a key part in the SGU’s continued development of the top amateurs in Scotland."
“They are passionate about golf and committed to supporting the game both at grass roots level and the top end of the game. This new partnership can help strengthen the relationship between amateur and professional golf in Scotland.”
Scotland’s men’s team will be hoping that the sponsorship can boost their chances of victory in this season’s Home Internationals, which takes place on home turf at Muirfield, 3 – 5 September, whilst looking to improve on last year’s bronze medal winning performance when they travel to Turin for the European Team Championships in July.
Aberdeen Asset Management is principle sponsor of this week’s Ladies Scottish Open at The Carrick near Loch Lomond; hopes are high for a home victory, with Mhairi Mackay, Clare Queen and Lynne Kenny flying the flag for Scotland. In addition the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters was announced earlier this month. Due to take place in February 2009, it is set to be an exciting event and yet another new destination for the European Seniors Tour.
